Free State PTA is proud to announce the official release of four essential leadership guides: the Boardsmanship Guide, Principal’s Guide, Nominations and Elections Guide, and Secretary’s Guide. These resources are designed to empower PTA leaders, school administrators, and volunteers with clear, actionable tools for strong, effective, and transparent leadership.
The Boardsmanship guide gives PTA board members an overview of their fiduciary responsibilities. Additionally, it will provide guidance on how board members are expected to interact with one another, knowledge they should have, and the manners they should consider when addressing conflict. This guide is a supplement to federal and state laws as well as to your approved constituent PT(S)A bylaws, policies and procedures, standing rules, or other governing documents. A board member is also considered a director.
The Nominations and Elections Resource Guide is designed to provide PTA leadership at the local school level and the county council level with guidance on how to attract and retain leaders. Always, it starts with a simple ask and appreciating the volunteers you have. This guide is a supplement to federal and state laws as well as to your approved constituent PT(S)A bylaws, policies and procedures, standing rules, or other governing documents. To understand the value of nominations and elections, there must be integrity, consideration of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and transparency.
The Principal’s Guide offers information on effective ways to work with principals. This guide is designed to provide strategies on how to work wi
the principals at whatever stage in their profession while serving in a PTA leadership capacity, primarily as President.
The Secretary's Guide is designed to provide guidance on serving as a secretary within a constituent unit of the Free State Parent Teacher Association (PTA), whether it be a recording secretary or corresponding secretary this guide is a supplement to federal and state laws as well as to your approved constituent PT(S)A bylaws, policies and procedures, standing rules, or other governing documents. To understand the role of the Secretary, it is important to understand your duties in the context of a board member and officer.
